SOS: Safety on Our Streets
SOS will be an interactive discussion designed to engage individuals in various ways about safety in the Central District. The forum will be the culmination of Hidmo CEP’s “The Central District Clothesline Project”. Historically, the Clothesline Project was a way for women to use t-shirts and a clothesline to testify about violence that happens to them and their community, or that of someone they knew.
We are expanding this concept to all residents and members of the community, and are partnering with Central District businesses, residents, churches and schools to advocate for safety, in all its forms, within our community. The anonymous T-shirts will be made at Central District community hubs all week long.
This neighborhood-wide effort is unique in that it seeks to bring together a community stratified, and often fragmented, by our differences. The overall goal of the forum is to continue the work that we are all doing to get to know each other better, to feel safer in our neighborhood and to empower our community.
Childcare will be provided.
