Café Society formed early 2010 in Seattle to create a monthly event that will feature established and up & coming female artists in our diverse music community. The concept for Café Society is a play off the old Jazz Club of the same name in NYC that was the first to integrate blacks and whites as patrons. As well as being the first racially integrated night club in the United States, Billie Holiday performed “Strange Fruit” there for the first time ever and Lena Horne’s career was launched there. Seattle’s Café Society will celebrate the renaissance happening in this city’s music scene as of late by hosting a monthly party at a rotating venue that will showcase a female artist representing her genre of music, which will be followed by a DJ who will create the perfect atmosphere for a dance party.
