Seattle’s premier hip-hop label, Sportn’ Life Records, has two new artists officially joining their roster. The first is local R&B singer Marissa who’s already been doing vocals on songs by Fatal Lucciauno and D. Black for awhile now. You can hear her all over Fatal’s The Only Forgotten Son album and based on the work she’s already done for the label, the Sportn’ Life folks have decided to market her as a solo artist. They’ve also signed an MC by the name of SK who’s been working as a hype man for fellow Sportn’ Life artist Spaceman for roughly a year now. SK is actually D. Black and Fearce Vill of Dyme Def’s cousin.
For the seventh consecutive year, Seattle’s music community will come together to show their support for all-ages music and art at The Vera Project by throwing back a few drinks at their neighborhood bar and checking out a great show. ADFTK 2009 happens Sunday, July 5th -Saturday, July 11th 2009. Folks can visit any of these several fine host-establishments, order the special A Drink For The Kids beer or cocktail, and the proceeds go to support the Vera Project.
Starting July 1st, small live music venues in Seattle will no longer be charged a 5% admissions tax by the city. The Seattle City Council voted May 26th to waive the tax for all venues that have a maximum occupancy less than 1,000 people and offer live music at least three days per week and have at least 16 musicians perform per week. This will help clubs during these tough economic times, make it easier for people to go out and hear music, and allow musicians a greater opportunity to play and earn a living. This is a great success for Seattle music and will help to truly make Seattle the City of Music!
